Why exfoliate ?

By April 3, 2016Uncategorized

Human skin is truly amazing. It’s the body’s first line of defence; it absorbs nutrients and protects us in so many ways. It’s a miracle organ, rejuvenating itself, shedding the dead unwanted layers, to reveal radiant new life beneath.

With all that gets thrown at this incredible system of ours, exfoliation is one way we can re-energise it and encourage it to breathe. As we grow older, our skin needs help to discard the dead cells. They can build up, leaving you with a dull, uneven complexion. Exfoliation removes the first layer of the epidermis, unclogging the skin’s surface and clearing away these lifeless cells.
So what are the benefits of exfoliation?
– Removes dead skin cells.
– Smooths out uneven skin tone.
– Helps prevent breakouts.
– Revives skin to fight the signs of ageing.
– Allows your skin to absorb nutrients from natural skin products by unclogging the skins surface of dead skin cells.
– Increases blood circulation to encourage new skin cells to grow.
– Stimulates the lymphatic system.
The two most popular ways to exfoliate are exfoliation scrubs and dry brushing.

Exfoliation scrubs contain small granules, made from a variety of ingredients, which work to gently scrub away the dead skin cells. At Raw Beauty we especially love the Erica Brooke Skincare Body Polish. With its healing and nourishing qualities it is the perfect body scrub. Alternatively, why not try to make your own. Here’s a recipe for a nice, simple coffee and coconut scrub. This is our favourite; it has spectacular antioxidant qualities, as well as antibacterial, antifungal and circulatory benefits.
Exfoliation is not just for your body, face exfoliation is also important. We adore the Erica Brooke Face Exfoliant. The combination of the unique ‘anti army’ (anti microbial, anti-fungal, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and anti-viral) and raw honey, colloidal silver, apple cider vinegar and coconut oil, will leave your skin feeling protected, replenished and revitalised.

Dry brushing is exactly as it sounds. It’s moving a dry bristled brush across the skin’s surface to remove dead skin cells. It boosts circulation and stimulates the Lymphatic System.
We also recommend the Konjac sponge. Konjac sponges are made from a porous root vegetable and are a nice, gentle way to exfoliate.
At the Raw Beauty studio we have a number of organic beauty treatments available that include a natural form of exfoliation. Our Exotic Aromatic Sugar Glow body treatment is one, and it’s just divine. It includes a light dry brushing to prepare the skin, then we apply a blend of fine sea salt and essential oils to hydrate and nourish your entire body. It’s pure bliss!
No matter what type of skin you have, taking it back to its raw beauty will enable it to function exactly the way it was intended. Exfoliation is a ritual everyone should integrate into their weekly skincare routine.
